Horsham rewrites history books

Ten out of ten. Those four words describe Horsham's decade of premiership success, and its destructive final term against Warrack Eagles in Saturday's Wimmera Football League grand final at Central Park at Stawell.

The Demons' hopes of a 10th straight flag looked in serious jeopardy when Warrack's Dan Krahe goaled shortly after the last change to reduce the margin to 12 points.

But Horsham had other ideas, booting eight of the next 10 goals to blow the game apart and record a 47-point triumph. Stuart Farr has been a part of all 10 flags nine as a player and this year from the bench after a knee injury cut his playing career short late in the season.

Farr said it was an amazing feeling to be part of something so special.

"It's an unreal feeling. It's slightly different this year because I wasn't playing," he said.

"But I'm just so rapt for the guys and what they've put in since back in November.

"A lot of people wrote us off, but we had supreme confidence in our ability."

Farr paid tribute to the runners-up, which were gallant in defeat.

"They're certainly a dangerous outfit and they were right there with us until that final quarter," he said.

Nick Pekin was a worthy winner of the Greg Binns Medal for best on ground.

His damaging left-foot caused plenty of problems for the Eagles all afternoon. Pekin, who started the week with a top-three finish in the Toohey Medal count, said he was ecstatic to be part of such a remarkable achievement.

"We had the belief that the boys could do it and we grounded out a really good win," he said.

"We didn't want a repeat of the qualifying final we battled out four good quarters of footy."

The pacey on-baller said his side's preliminary final win over Dimboola was perfect preparation for Saturday's decider.

"We needed the Dimboola game just to get ourselves together and play some good footy," Pekin said.

Pekin praised team-mate Dylan Parish, who was Horsham's leading goal-kicker with eight majors.

"He's a great player he should be playing SANFL or something better," he said. "It's good that he's hanging around Horsham because he's a beautiful player."
