The Hornets claimed a five-point triumph against Mt Gambier on Saturday night and backed it up on Sunday afternoon by taking down Portland in a thrilling 52-49 result.
The women’s side led by two points at the first change but fell behind by one at the main break before storming to an eight-point advantage at three-quarter-time.
But the contest was far from over, as the Coasters rallied to close within one point in the dying stages.
Portland was one goal away from snatching the lead at numerous times in the final three minutes, but could not net the decisive blow.
The Hornets held firm as a late goal to Aily McAuliffe with just 12 seconds remaining handed them some breathing space.
Ella Bibby, 12 points, Sharon Fedke, 11, and McAuliffe, 10, were the most prolific for the Hornets in their forward half as the women took a six-point lead atop the table with one match remaining.
