The announcement follows months of searching in a busy off-season for the Ballarat Football League club.
Burke, a former coach of the Horsham Demons in the Wimmera Football League, was a part of the Rebels between 2003-05.
A talented tall forward, Burke enjoyed considerable success during his time at the Demons, winning six senior premierships across seven years.
Burke, who will be a playing coach, told The Courier he was eager to begin his new role.
“It’s by far the best opportunity I’ve had put in front of me,” Burke said.
“With the quality of the organisation and set-up that I’m heading into, it should hold me in good stead as I look to further my coaching career.
“I can’t wait. It's a big challenge, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
City football manager Stephen Darbin said Burke was a terrific acquisition.
“We’re really excited to bring someone of Jordyn’s character to the club,” Darbin said.
“It’s easy to find a coach, but hard to find the right one. We had to find the best fit for the club and we're confident that's the case with Jordyn. He is a fantastic club man.
“He's also relocating his family down here, which shows a real commitment to the cause.”
Burke fills the vacancy left by former coach Robbie Waters, who is now at the Rebels as an assistant coach.
