The following galleries are the ones you clicked on the most in 2015.
Do you remember these events?
1. Horsham Cup 2015
The Wimmera Mail-Times Horsham Cup Best Dressed competition grew again in 2015, and was the most popular event online.
The original Horsham Cup Best Dressed gallery was hugely popular, as was the Top 30 Horsham Cup Best Dressed gallery, and the Top 10 Horsham Cup Best Dressed gallery.
2. Wimmera fires in January
From just after New Year’s Day, there were fires burning throughout the Wimmera.
Areas affected included the Black Range, near Nhill and Edenhope, and Moyston.
Mail-Times photographers and readers alike captured the fires in photos – and the rest of us looked at the pictures in horror and awe. Fingers crossed we don’t have the same in 2016.
3. Footy and netball grand finals
They’re the biggest weekends of the year – footy finals!
Horsham District Football Netball League, Wimmera Football League and WImmera Netball Association grand finals coverage was red hot online in September.
Relive the excitement with our Wimmera pictures here, and the HDFNL action wrap here.
4. Fire behind Mushy’s Tyre Service
It was about 5pm when a fire lit up in Horsham near Mushy’s Tyre Service.
It blazed its way through a stack of rubbish, including cars.
Rolling coverage of the fire and the subsequent highway closure drew many eyes to the website – as did the amazing photos and videos of the fire.
A later story included drone photos and video.
5. Wimmera Machinery Field Days
The field days are popular each year – and this year proved no exception.
Our first mega gallery, Wimmera Machinery Field Days 2015: Day one, enjoyed a huge response.
The day two mega gallery drew a similar response.
6. Interleague double-header
This year Wimmera faced Bellarine Football Netball League and Horsham District met with Central Highlands for the interleague clashes in Horsham.
The Wimmera senior footballers came away victorious, but the results were not so good for the Horsham District league boys.
Regardless of the results, the amazing photos proved a winner online in the Interleague football double-header at Horsham City Oval gallery.
7. Horsham’s power station fire
This one was only a month ago but quickly soared into the top 10 galleries of 2015.
Much like the fire near Mushy’s Tyre Service, it was after 5pm when thousands of residents suddenly lost power. It soon became clear to those in Horsham that there was a fire at the Horsham Power Sub Station, as black smoke billowed through the air.
The incident knocked out internet connection for some of our journos and photographers, but the team rushed to ensure we could bring our readers all the details. But words couldn’t do the fire justice – only the photos and videos could.
Luckily, power was restored and the fire extinguished that night, with no injuries.
8. National Dog Day in the Wimmera
It was the day our hearts melted, as streams of dog photos flooded the Mail-Times’ Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and email feeds.
National Dog Day was certainly a hit in our area – did your furry friend feature in the gallery?
9. Jeparit-Rainbow’s first HDFNL game
Jeparit-Rainbow v Kalkee – it was the focus of Horsham District league’s round one this year.
The Storm had joined Horsham District from the Mallee league, and everyone was keen to see how it fared.
Jeparit-Rainbow stepped up, challenging Kalkee and falling short by just 11 points in the seniors.
10. Longy B&S Ball
People from every state in Australia converged on the Wimmera for the 2015 Longy Seeders and Strippers Ball.
Even so, the Longy B&S gallery drew more clicks than the ball did people!
It looks like a fantastic night out.
