Fly-in boosts Nhill's show

NHILL Aviation Heritage Centre board will host its biennial fly-in on October 20, to coincide with the annual Nhill Agricultural and Pastoral Society Show on October 18.

Board member John Deckert said planning for the second fly-in, at Nhill Aerodrome, had taken two years, but was now complete.

"The board believes there is a great weekend organised it is now up to the weather," he said.

The fly-in, from noon to 4pm, will honour the 10,000 Royal Australian Air Force veterans who trained at the aerodrome during the Second World War.

War planes on display will include a Mustang and a Wirraway, one of the planes used for training at Nhill during the war.

Mr Deckert said historic and contemporary military vehicles would also be on display, with Tiger Moth joy flights available.

"The fly-in will raise money to restore a Second World War Avro Anson plane to go on display in the planned Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre," he said.

"Cost for the day is $10 a person and $20 for families."

Mr Deckert said the board decided to combine the fly-in with the Nhill Show because it was one of Victoria's outstanding country shows.

"As well as the pavilion exhibits and the arena events there is a large area of static displays and of course the sideshow alley," he said.

"Nhill Vintage Machinery Club will set up its major display for the year and there will be a spectacular fireworks display."

Mr Deckert said fly-in visitors who arrived in Nhill early to enjoy the show would not be forgotten on Friday, October 19.

"Nhill will be open for visitors as will the vintage club, Westprint Maps, Lowana Women's Centre, Nhill Historical Centre and it is also intended that the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre rooms in Nelson Street, near the Commercial Hotel, will be open to visitors," he said.

"We encourage people to call in, say hello and have a look at some of our memorabilia."

Mr Deckert said people could call Rob Lynch on 0428 911 387 for more information.
