Former Horsham actor Alex Rathgeber is the ambassador of the redevelopment.
He officially opened the box office on Monday ahead of the Horsham Arts Council’s 50th anniversary performance opening on Friday.
It was the first time the stage actor had seen the finished project.
Rathgeber, a former Horsham Arts Council performer, has gone on to perform in a number of shows in Australia and internationally including Anything Goes, Phantom of the Opera, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Rocky Horror Show, The Boy from Oz and An Officer and A Gentleman.
He said the finished town hall was amazing.
“It’s a really high quality venue for local performances,” he said.
“It’s especially great for people to learn in.
“Even all the technical elements for people to use – it must be thrilling.”
Rathgeber praised the community for such a successful finished product.
“So many people have worked really hard to make it happen,” he said.
“It’s a really exciting space of possibility.
“It means so much to so many people.
“Amazing things are going to happen here.”
Town hall marketing and box office co-ordinator Charee Smith said it was fantastic to have Rathgeber back in the city.
“He was a longstanding person in the arts in the Wimmera,” she said.
“Now he’s a star.”
Rathgeber’s brief Wimmera visit was in transit inbetween his Adelaide and Melbourne shows of Ghost the Musical.
The show is an adaptation of the 1990 iconic film Ghost, which starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Tony Goldwin and Whoopi Goldberg.
Rathgeber plays the role of villain Carl Bruner, played by Goldwin in the film.
He said the production has received a positive response from audiences after its South Australian premiere.
“It’s surprising people,” he said.
“A lot of younger people who might not have seen the film are falling in love with it.”
Ghost the Musical will start its Melbourne run on Friday.
The show will travel to Sydney in March and Perth in May.
