A large home crowd is expected to turn out for the match at Horsham Basketball Stadium at 6pm.
It will be followed by the men’s final between Warrnambool and Mt Gambier at 8pm. The Lady Hornets will head into their final as favourites thanks to Colac’s upset win against Mt Gambier in the semi-finals.
I think there is excitement, some nerves and all the stuff that happens before a big game
- Annie Brack
That game saw the fourth-placed Kookas gain an unlikely place in the grand final.
The two teams have met twice this season, with the most recent match-up in round 10 handing the Lady Hornets a 84-78 win.
Colac was a vastly improved team in that game after a 20-point defeat at the hands of the Lady Hornets in round one.
Despite a young side, the Lady Hornets players will be confident in their ability to win the game.
Captain Annie Brack and Sharon Fedke provide cool-headed balance to the ferocious attack of the younger players.
Brack said there would be some nerves, but they would be tempered by the grand final experience many of the players had when the Lady Hornets topped the competition in 2013-14.
“I think there is excitement, some nerves and all the stuff that happens before a big game,” she said.
“We have a fairly young team, but lots of the girls were playing two years ago and know what it is about. You always feel more pressure when you are the higher ranked team.”
Brack said despite Colac’s unexpected win, the Lady Hornets players would not to change their preparation for the game.
“We will get in the mindset that this is the team to face up to on Saturday,” she said.
