A permanent speed limit of 40kmh has applied on a section of the road near Horsham College since a water main burst in the area on Wednesday.
Crews are working to reinstate the road to its original condition.
THURSDAY
HORSHAM’S Dimboola Road has reopened after a water main burst on Wednesday.
The road reopened early on Thursday morning.
One lane reopened just before midnight on Wednesday as crews worked on the burst main near Hazel Street.
GWMWater’s Andrew Rose said the water loss was minimal.
“The crews were able to isolate and switch off the supply quite quickly. Less than 15 kilolitres was lost,” he said.
WEDNESDAY
DIMBOOLA Road in Horsham will remain closed until Wednesday night.
The road – which becomes the Western Highway – is closed at Horsham College after a water main burst in the area just before 3pm on Wednesday.
GWMWater’s Andrew Rose said crews were working to fix the problem.
“We anticipate the road won’t reopen until late Wednesday evening,” he said.
“The repair of the pipe won’t take that long, it’s getting the road back to suitable condition.
“It is just the typical moving of Horsham’s reactive clay that has caused the water pipe to crack.”
VicRoads has traffic diversions in place at Kalkee Road in Horsham for people travelling towards Adelaide.
VicRoads has advised motorists to travel to Wallup and turn off towards Dimboola on the Borung Highway before rejoining the Western Highway.
There is also a diversion at Dimboola for people travelling towards Melbourne.

HORSHAM streets are closed after a water main burst.
VicRoads issued a traffic alert for an incident near Hazel Street on Wednesday afternoon.
The street and Dimboola Road are closed.
About 15 minutes earlier, the authority issued an alert for a burst water main on Dimboola-Rainbow Road.
A spokeswoman said the job was initially reported on this road, but this was incorrect and an updated traffic alert was issued.

VICROADS wants people to avoid areas near Dimboola-Rainbow Road after a water main burst.
The authority issued an alert about 2.40pm on Wednesday.
The Dimboola-Rainbow Road is closed while crews try to fix the problem.
Police are also on the scene of a burst water main near Horsham College.
The incident in Hazel Street, Horsham, happened about the same time as the burst main near Dimboola.
Hazel Street is closed.
