On Monday, CIMIC Group announced it had been selected by the Australian Capital Territory government as the preferred company to deliver the first stage of Capital Metro, Canberra's light rail project.
The project's construction phase is scheduled to start in a few months, and Capital Metro is expected to be operational from late 2018. CIM added 66 cents to move to $24.73.
On Tuesday, Computershare confirmed it had been appointed preferred supplier in the tender process to undertake the mortgage servicing activities of UK Asset Resolution (UKAR), which was established in 2010 to administer the closed mortgage books of both Bradford and Bingley and Northern Rock Asset Management.
The seven-year contract is to undertake mortgage servicing activities on behalf of UKAR, with 30 billion GBP of assets under management. CPU added 30 cents to $10.85.
On Wednesday, OZ Minerals announced it would expand Prominent Hill’s underground operation by building a second access decline linking existing underground development with the open pit.
This will lift the peak capacity of the underground mine by about 30 per cent to about 3.5-4.0mt an annum. OZL lost three cents to $3.77.
On Thursday, AGL Energy announced exploration and production of natural gas assets would no longer be a core business due to commodity price volatility and long development lead times. AGL added 40 cents to $18.91.
The gold price finished the week at $1173.80 an ounce, the WTI oil price traded at $31.02 a barrel, and the Australian dollar was worth US $0.70675.
In the US on Friday night, the Dow Jones finished down 211.75 points to end the week at 16,204.83. This result has caused the Share Price Index (SPI) to move down 56 points to 4867 which should lead to a negative start to Monday’s trading.
