Horsham’s Holy Trinity Lutheran School and Ss Michael and John’s Primary School celebrated the start of Lent with a morning feast.
Ss Michael and John’s Primary School religious education co-ordinator Anna Robertson said the school had made pancakes for the students for the past two years.
“The teachers all made up batter and brought it along,” she said.
“We had parents come along and help cook the pancakes and give them out to kids.
“The families are also invited to join in.
“Later in the day we had the burning of the palm to make the ash for Ash Wednesday on Wednesday.”
Holy Trinity Lutheran School office administrator Sue Starbuck said students loved the annual event.
“They were all pretty excited,” she said.
“It’s something a bit special.
“We have a few students who are gluten or dairy free but that was supplied so everyone could participate.”
She said some of the students’ mothers came in and helped cook the pancakes.
Ms Starbuck said the morning tea doubled as a fundraiser for Wimmera Uniting Care.
The school raised $515 for the organisation.
Wimmera Uniting Care’s hosted their own pancake morning tea at St Andrew's Uniting Church.
The event included a free jumping castle.
All money raised at the event will go towards positive experiences for vulnerable youth in residential care, including excursions or short getaways.
