The students will perform the musical Hairspray at the Horsham Town Hall in August.
Student Ryan Morrow, who plays heartthrob Link Larkin, said it would be a massive show, with lots of energy.
“It’s a dancing show and for someone like me, who isn’t a dancer, it’s a lot of hard work,” he said.
The students started rehearsals at the end of term one, and meet every Thursday after school.
“Opening night is on August 11,” Ryan said.
“It should be awesome to perform in the new theatre at the town hall.”
Year 11 student Julia Gasparini has the lead role of Tracy Turnblad.
“I wanted to be involved because I love the storyline and the music,” she said.
“It hasn’t been too stressful yet being the lead, but probably the week of the show I will be stressed and nervous.
“I’m a bit nervous already, but it’s also fun, so it balances out.”
Julia said it wasn’t difficult to learn all the songs because she liked the musical so much that she already knew them
“I just hope I can perform it well,” she said.
Julia said being involved in productions were her favourite part of school.
“I’ve been involved in productions since year 8 and I also did productions in primary school,” she said.
Student and production captain Baylee McLean said she wanted to be involved in Hairspray to work with people in other year levels.
“The songs are great too,” she said.
“Musical week is the best week of school.”
Baylee said being in a production helped students get to know each other.
“There were year seven students that I wouldn’t know otherwise, but now I do,” she said.
Student Macey Purdue, who is also a dance captain, said it was great to work with lots of different people.
“I just hope we can do the show justice,” she said.
Student Joel Kimberley, who plays Brad, said he wanted to be involved because he had a passion to perform.
The students have been rehearsing in its new studio and gymnasium.
Director Emily Friedrichsen said the new space was fantastic and allowed for multiple dances and scenes to be rehearsed at once.
Hairspray will run from August 11 to 13.
