GOROKE’S John Crabtree describes Anzac Day as emotional. 

He and his wife are both children of First World War soldiers.

Mr Crabtree was also a soldier himself, and was part of the national service in 1952.

“My wife’s father was Arthur Cooper and my father was Charles Crabtree, but everyone called him Charlie,” he said.

“We found a photo once from the First World War of 20 wounded soldiers, it was taken the same day my dad was wounded.

“However, we don’t know if he was in the photo because it’s too small to tell.

“Anzac Day is a very emotional day.”

Pte Charle Henry Lock Crabtree enlisted at Horsham on February 25, 1916. 

He served with the seventh infantry battalion and died in 1963.

Mr Crabtree now has 20 grandchildren.

“The youngest was named Charlie, after my father,” he said. 

Three of Mr Crabtree’s grandchildren attended the Goroke Anzac Day service with him on Monday.
