The colourful Thomson passed away late last week.
A former club president, Thomson was a life member of the Eagles and the Wimmera Football League.
He served as the league president from 1989 to 1994 and became its first chief commissioner.
A sergeant in the Second World War, he saw active service overseas. He moved to Warracknabeal in the mid 1960s and was active in the Apex club, Legacy and other community groups.
A passionate sportsman, Thomson was a life member of the Wimmera Regional Tennis Council and played golf well into his 90s.
He operated a furniture store in the town for more than 40 years and was a recipient of the Order of Australia Medal and the Australian Sports Medal.
“Warracknabeal was his passion,” good friend Max Woodward said.
“He was so well known and respected.”
