This weekend, two matches will have a major bearing on final five placings, with Tatyoon (4th) up against Moyston-Willaura (6th) and Lismore-Derrinallum (5th) challenging Penshurst (2nd).
The Country Championship game against South West League is rapidly arriving. The MDFL has announced its training squad ahead of the Interleague clash. On paper, selectors should have a highly competitive side and local area players are well represented.
They are as follows:
Great Western: BJ Birch-Burton, Anthony Bourke; SM&W Rovers: Sam Munro, Moyston-Willaura: Josh Bywater, Rhys Cronin, Mathew Peel; Tatyoon: Arthur Armstrong, Shaun McDougall, Shaun Orr, Steve Butler, Adrian Pilgrim, Tyler Cronin, Harry Ganley and Jake Williamson; Wickliffe-Lake Bolac: Nigel Otto, Chris Thornton, Bailey Veale, Brad Keilar and Mick Otto.
Mininera and District faces South West League at Melville Oval, Hamilton, on May 21.
The MDFL is enforcing AFL Vic Country rule 18.0 in regard to player availability for representative team selection. It states that a player without an adequate reason for their unavailability shall be not permitted to play in their club’s next home and away match.
The DJ Martin Goal kicking award has John Vanderwaal still leading with 24 goals from Penshurst’s William McGregor on 20. Tatyoon’s Adrian Pilgram and Demons’ James Boag are third on 17 apiece.
The highly respected Western Area Junior Carnival is scheduled at Pedrina Park, Hamilton on Sunday, May 22. The MDFL will be announcing players in the respective under-16, 14 and 12 teams next week. Please note the change of venue from Portland to Hamilton.
