The annual 10-day event runs in Horsham each June.
This year marks the third instalment of the festival’s ‘layers of time’ theme. The focus for the 2016 event will be stories, myths and legends.
Among this year’s festival workshops and events will be the launch of Horsham Rural City Council’s public arts committee’s latest Light in Laneways exhibition, From a studio in the city.
The project involves light boxes featuring community artwork being installed at various points in Horsham.
Council cultural development officer Jillian Pearce said the project was an ongoing response for increased safety and aesthetic experiences in the city’s laneways.
“At present, there is a focus on the use of light boxes to connect the Ward Street public car park, and from Pynsent Street through to Gallery Alley to Wilson Street,” she said.
“Currently there are six light boxes on the white Forty Winks building wall along the Ward Street car park entrance of an exhibition called By a creek in a city.
“This features environmental artwork of students from Horsham College’s McKenzie Creek campus, led by artist Frank Tagliabue.”
Ms Pearce said a further six light boxes had been installed on the Horsham Town Hall wall facing Gallery Alley, with a collective exhibition produced by Horsham Regional Art Gallery education officer Debbie Moar.
The From a studio in the city project comprises work from a group of artists who meet at Federation University each Thursday.
Featured artists include Yvonne Preusker, Joan Goad, Sue Devlin, Peta Adamson and Joan Johns.
The project’s official launch will be on June 11.
The Art is… program launch will be at Horsham Regional Art Gallery from 6pm on Friday.
Organisers said people could visit www.artis.wimmera.com.au after the launch to download the full program.
The Art is… Layers of Time festival runs from June 3 to 12.
