IT specialist Keith Haeusler, the college’s student development officer Anna Ferguson and year eight co-ordinator and open day organiser Leigh McDonald have developed a way to give people a virtual tour of the school.
They have created a QR code, which visitors can scan with a smartphone or tablet.
Mrs Ferguson said the code then directed users to a web address.
“It will redirect your phone or tablet to a URL, which will have a student narrator talking about the specific class you have chosen,” she said.
VCE Media students Nic O’Connor and Thomas O’Beirne provide narrations for each classroom, with topics ranging from science to textiles.
Thomas said the pair enjoyed the opportunity.
He said they took a media class last last year, which allowed them a chance to present on Triple H radio.
“I really enjoyed the experience at Triple H and would love to narrate or present as a hobby,” he said. Nic said he loved presenting on the radio.
“I also really like that I am volunteering to help out at the school,” he said.
College vice-principal Kingsley Dalgleish hopes the virtual tour could become a regular part of open days.
“It’s great that we are implementing modern technology in the event,” he said.
Mr Dalgleish said apps for reading QR codes were available on all platforms.
The open day is on Sunday from 11.30am to 2pm.
