Horsham resident Max Pietruschka has created Voices of Wimmera, a group based on the Choir of Hard Knocks.
Wimmera music teacher Unmani is the choir director and pianist, while Robbie Millar is artistic director and guitarist.
Mr Pietruschka has lived in Melbourne and been involved with choirs including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Choral.
He said Voices of Wimmera, which launched publicly last week, had already received donations.
“We have received $5500 in funding so far, which has gobsmacked me,” he said.
“Getting that sort of money in such a short amount of time in Melbourne would be a daydream.
“Among the donations is a cheque for $500 from Anna East at Conserve Framing in Horsham.
“People have been so generous.”
Mr Pietruschka said the choir aimed to promote community inclusion through music.
He said members did not require singing experience.
The group will host a meet and greet on May 30 at the Horsham CWA hall from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Weekly choir practices will follow at the hall from June 20, from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Mr Pietruschka encouraged anyone interested in joining to call him on 0412 522 989, email info@voicesofwimmera.org.au or visit www.voicesofwimmera.org.au.
