Students in an after-school drama program have worked with Natimuk artist Dave Jones to create the work.
Program leader Chris Summers said the giant puppet was unveiled during Horsham College’s year seven showcase on Tuesday night.
The after-school program is open to students in years seven to nine.
“The puma is designed to have a bit of mystery around it,” Mr Summers said.
“Students have been working with Dave since the start of term two, so roughly six weeks.
“We have a core group of eight students, but we’re open to letting anyone have a go.”
Mr Summers said students had learned how to move the puppet in a range of ways, including up onto its back legs.
“The students have been getting an idea for how the puppet works, learning to move in unison, and coming up with a range of behaviours,” he said.
“Dave has been instrumental in developing those.”
Mr Summers said the puma would have more outings in the lead-up to Horsham’s Art is… festival in June.
“The puma will soon be sneaking out into Horsham, so keep your eyes peeled,” he said.
