A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed police were called to a residential home in Ellam Court in Meadow Heights just before 5.30pm, following a report of a firearm being discharged.

They are still searching for a man who ran from the home shortly after the incident.

Neighbours reported on social media that a police helicopter had been hovering low over the area.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a woman in her 30s suffered lower body injuries and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Hume Crime Investigation Unit are at the scene.
