Darryn Tucker said his teenage daughters had about eight school friends at his Kew home when the large group jumped the fence and threw a beer bottle through a window.

Mr Tucker and his wife were dining in the city when they received a call from his terrified daughters.

"It was absolutely intimidating for my young girls," he said.

"It was just like Braveheart coming to the door, a complete ambush."

By the time police arrived the trespassers had left the scene but Mr Tucker said the 30-minute ordeal was captured on the house's surveillance camera.

"You see several [intruders] gaining entry by force and smashing a front window from a beer bottle thrown causing malicious damage. You see the whole story unfold in the footage, they try to push back."

"Police were called twice after screaming attempts of urgency as the delinquents hovered at the front fence but the delayed patrol was too late to stop property damage."

"Alcohol was stolen and splintered glass covered the furniture and floor."

Rob, a parent of one of the girls invited to the gathering, told 3AW on Monday that his daughter knew who the gatecrashers were.

"They have CCTV footage but the police have said sorry, we can't charge the trespassers just the guy who threw the bottle... doesn't seem fair."

"The police say they can't charge someone who jumps a locked gate and tries to steal people's property. It seems quite curious," he said.

Mr Tucker's daughters told police they recognised several people in the group of 30 gatecrashers, as students from several Melbourne private schools.

He said he would take the issue up with the schools on Monday morning.

"I think this is an everyday event with these guys," Mr Tucker said.

"With exams approaching those involved should be suspended for the threats and property damage caused to my family," Mr Tucker said.

The CCTV footage has been provided to police.

A Victoria Police spokesman said police were investigating the incident and no arrests had been made.
