The VicHealth H30 Challenge will see Ararat sports clubs compete to sign as many people as possible for the sugar-free, 30-day effort.
The club that signs the most will win $1000 to put towards a health initiative of its choice.
There are also four $100 Intersport vouchers up for grabs.
Individuals who sign up for the challenge will also enter a draw to win one of four six-month Ararat Fitness Centre passes.
Ararat Rural City recreation and community development officer Matthew Simpson said residents can register online.
“Signing up is easy,” he said.
“You choose your own start date, switch sugary drinks to water for 30 days and VicHealth will keep you motivated along the way.
“The H30 Challenge doesn’t cost anything and it’s not a fad diet.
“It is about decreasing your health risks and increasing your body’s performance – all by just switching to water for 30 days.”
Nearly two-thirds of Victorians are currently overweight or obese and this number is predicted to rise.
Reducing intake of excess kilojoules through drinks is one way to promote a healthier diet and improved health.
Mr Simpson said there was plenty to gain for participants in the challenge.
“You might even save money,” he said.
Clubs wishing to sign up to the challenge should contact Mr Simpson at MSimpson@ararat.vic.gov.au or go to the website H30Challenge.com.au/Ararat for more details.
