The side succumbed to a two-point loss.
Country seemed in control for the majority of the match at Simmonds Stadium in Geelong.
The side led by 20 points at the final stanza with Metro staging a final quarter comeback to win the match 94 to 92.
Berry said he was disappointed with the outcome.
“It was definitely a high scoring game and it is great to see the country boys coming together,” he said.
“We are happy with how we played and the effort we managed to maintain.”
Berry said the side would continue to work on the finer parts of the game.
“It was our second game together and I noticed the camaraderie starting to build,” he said.
“We have become more comfortable with each other.
“I thought we played well but sometimes that’s how the ball bounces.”
The next test for Vic Country’s squad is South Australia, which has had a good start to the carnival.
Berry said he viewed the South Australian side as the team to beat.
“I can’t wait to play them, I have a week off this week to refresh before we go into camp on June 22,” he said.
“We will get the opportunity to prove ourselves.”
The loss to Vic Metro was Berry’s second game back after an AC joint injury and he said it was a frustrating start.
“I was struggling with continuity,” he said. “It’s our goal to knock off South Australia.”
