Thomas Roberston, 22, appeared in Horsham Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Robertson, and his accomplice Andrew Heggie, 20, of Camberwell, shot the kangaroos, beat them with a baseball bat and posted a video of the act on Facebook.
The incident happened on a property near Horsham on November 27, 2014.
Robertson pleaded guilty to five charges including destroying protected wildlife, hunting protected wildlife, aggravated cruelty to an animal and two counts of beating an animal.
Magistrate Gergory Robinson convicted Robertson on the charges, ordered he undertake a 12-month community corrections order and pay $6600 to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
He said watching the videos of the attack was sickening.
“The animals were defenceless and your conduct was cowardly, indecent and inhumane,” he said.
Mr Robinson also made orders for the destruction of the two firearms used in the offence.
The sentencing comes after Heggie was convicted in February, fined $1800 and ordered to serve 175 hours of community service for aggravated cruelty for his part in the incident.
Department senior compliance officer Katie Knight said these cruel acts involved protected wildlife and caused needless suffering to three eastern grey kangaroos.
"We hope the penalties imposed on the Camberwell man in February and on the Goroke man on Tuesday send a strong warning to those in the community who act cruelly toward wildlife,” she said.
“The department will pursue those who break Victoria's native wildlife protection laws.”
Earlier this year, the court heard the pair shot the kangaroos, but the animals did not die from the gunshot wounds.
The men then beat the kangaroos with an aluminium baseball bat and Heggie also kicked one kangaroo in the head.
