The current two-day licence costing $6 will be replaced by a three-day licence that costs $10. A 28-day licence will increase from $12 to $20. The one-year plastic licence will increase from $24.50 to $33 online and $35 over-the-counter; and the three-year plastic licence from $66 to $90 online and $95 over-the-counter.

Fisheries Victoria executive director Travis Dowling said recreational fishing licence fees had not increased since 2008.

“The extra revenue generated by these licensing changes will boost investment meaning more fish stocking, more improvements to angler access and facilities, and more community fishing events where newcomers can come and try this popular pastime,” Mr Dowling said.

“There will be no changes to exemptions and children under 18 will continue to fish for free.” Mr Dowling said wetting a line with family and friends was good for physical and mental health.
