Members donned surgical gowns and were shown through the theatre by West Wimmera Health Service theatre manager Sharon Sanderson.
The group was given a glimpse behind the scenes of the theatre ward and learned about the equipment used in procedures and what was involved in keeping the area clean and sterile.
Rotary Club president Ginty Thomson said the Rotarians enjoyed the experience and were privileged to be given the opportunity to gain some insight into the features of an operating theatre.
“It was very interesting and Sharon explained everything in a way that was easy to understand for non-medical people,” she said.
Specialists and general surgeons at the Nhill Hospital undertake procedures including eye surgery, ear nose and throat procedures, gynaecological surgery, oral surgery, and hip and knee replacements.
Mrs Sanderson said that waiting lists for consultation appointments and surgery were minimal and people could ask their general practitioner for a referral.
