The young soccer squad has to travel to areas such as Bacchus Marsh, Ballarat, Daylesford and Warrnambool.
This adds up to more than 4000 kilometers of travel over the course of the season, which doesn’t include finals.
It’s a great deal of travelling to play the world’s most popular game.
Club representative Simone Dalton pitched the club’s case to Wimmera Uniting Care as ‘soccer mates’.
The concept is every time the team plays an away game, players will take a photo, video or share something on social media with Wimmera Uniting Care, promoting both the organisation and the club.
Soccer mates’ investment will allow players to be kitted up, get high quality training and have the opportunity to travel long distances to play.
This will give soccer in the Wimmera the opportunity to grow and develop into an annual sponsorship.
Falcons coach Elijah Macchia said that it would be a great boost for players who already had to travel for training.
“We have players from all over and on the edge of the Wimmera,” he said.
“One of the senior players in the squad lives in Donald, with two living in Stawell and one in Halls Gap.
“The boys have committed to this side and it is great that they are getting rewarded for playing football.”
Macchia said that he hoped the support would promote the sport across the region.
“I would love to see the club grow even more. We have a large base of young players that are younger than 12 years old, but our senior section is lacking,” he said.
“I thank Wimmera Uniting Care for this opportunity to help a great sport out and the players that love it so much.”
