It was a little hand poking out from underneath a pile of blankets that grabbed the attention of an experienced community worker as he walked behind St Paul's Cathedral one cold night in 2003. It was a child's hand, belonging to a boy just nine years old. He had fled onto Melbourne's streets to escape the bashings from his father.
