Taskforce co-ordinator Sally Pymer said people might have heard of FebFast or Dry July but the taskforce had created a new contest that was fun for all ages.

The contest was a 31-day August winter challenge.

Ms Pymer said the challenge would involve doing different activities every day of the month.

She said activities would range from walking the block to smiling at strangers

“The aim is to do some simple, healthy things and have fun at the same time,” she said.

“By being involved you could also win some great prizes such as pamper packs, gym passes or café vouchers.”

The Wimmera Drug Action Taskforce aims to minimise the harms of alcohol and other drugs in the community.

Ms Pymer said the challenge was about more than alcohol consumption.

“Some ways to minimise harm, involves being socially connected, engaging in physical activity, doing things you enjoy and challenging yourself,” she said.

“This is what this challenge is all about, and not simply about reducing your alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, or other drugs for the month.

“It will hopefully make you think about doing other things during you day, and taking time to enjoy your day too.”

Ms Pymer said those registered would be given a calendar of tasks, and the taskforce would like to keep up with those participating in the challenge.
