Melbourne-based street art company Juddy Roller is in the process of co-ordinating artists for the five murals.
The 200-kilometre trail will include murals on silos at Rupanyup, Sheep Hills, Rosebery, Lascelles and Patchewollock.
Juddy Roller creative director Shaun Hossack said the company had shortlisted two street artists for the project – Adnate and Fintan Magee.
“We would really like to do two silos this year and another three next year,” he said.
“We would like to start the first two within in a matter of months, but we will see how we go.”
The sites for the first two silos are yet to be confirmed.
Mr Hossack said the company was thrilled to be involved in the project.
“We are so excited about this project, it’s one of the largest projects we’ve even been involved in,” he said.
“It’s going to be a long process, but to see it come together will make it worth the effort.”
Yarriambiack Mayor Ray Kingston said he would like to see two silos painted this year, but there was still a lot of work to be done.
“At the moment we are waiting to hear back on federal government funding, and we are waiting to hear more from a state government angle as well,” he said.
“We are hoping those grants will be confirmed in the near future.”
Cr Kingston said there had also been extensive consultation with GrainCorp and the communities.
“We had to talk to GrainCorp about how the process will work, about safety at sites and access to the sites,” he said.
“We are working hard to lock things in and I’m reasonably confident it will all come together.”
Cr Kingston said affected communities were excited about the project.
“I think there is some sentiment at Brim that the town could both gain and lose out of this project, as they won’t be the standalone silo anymore,” he said.
“However, the upside is that Brim will be the centre of this international attraction.
“There are also other silos around the country that are going to be painted – the same artist, Guido van Helten, is going to be painting silos at Coonalypn in South Australia.
“We knew this was probably going to happen, so we are creating a bigger project.”
