Luv-a-Duck chief executive officer Daryl Bussell said it was easy decision for the company.
“We are a family-owned company and the family roots are deeply embedded in Nhill,” he said.
“A new Wimmera Cancer Centre will improve treatment options for the Nhill community and the entire Wimmera and Southern-Mallee.”
The cancer centre has been planned as an addition to the Wimmera Base Hospital to improve comfort and convenience for oncology patients.
Wimmera Health Care Group acting chief executive Mark Knights said the donation from Luv-a-Duck was greatly appreciated.
“We are very grateful for the donation and we see this is another example of how the broader community understands the importance of the Wimmera Cancer Centre and accepts how it will greatly improve access to services for patients across the region,” he said.
“Every donation we have received, and every donation we will receive, will help make the Wimmera Cancer Centre a reality.”
The fundraising campaign for the centre, Rachael’s Wish, officially launched in June last year and so far the community had raised $855,102 of its $1-million target by June 2016.
The state and federal governments have each contributed $1 million to the $3.5-million project.
Mr Bussell said the donation fit with his company’s philosophy.
“We are a major employer in the region but we believe in treating our employees like family- this will greatly improve health outcomes for people we consider as family,” he said.
“As a major employer, we also understand our responsibility to help the community wherever possible.”
Horsham Rural City Council voted this month to donate $10,000 toward the cancer centre.
