Sitting in second position, Donald was the fancied team going into the match, but it was not to be as the Magpies ran out winners.
The final score was the Magpies 12.10 (82) to Donald’s 9.11 (65).
Boort’s intentions were clear from the first bounce.
The Magpies players went in hard for the football and applied plenty of pressure when they did not have possession.
Boort’s James Orr was in fine form and gave the Magpies first use of the ball.
Donald relied on its leaders such as Nick Garner and Brody Haddow.
The Royal Blues were the better of the two sides in the final quarter, outscoring Boort three goals to two, but the side was unable to bridge the gap.
In the end, the Magpies took the match by 17 points.
Haddow was named best for Donald with Garner, Ross Young, Charlie Murrie, Jackson Hogan and Darcy Harrison all featuring.
Seamus Young and Chris Prockter both kicked three goals each for Donald.
Donald has a chance to reclaim second spot but that will depend on the Royal Blues winning the final regular season game against the Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers.
That game is far from a guaranteed win for Donald as the Tigers will be keen to finish the season on a high.
St Arnaud never looked likely in its match up with Charlton. Charlton won the match by 133 points.
St Arnaud was up and about early, however, the side played its best football in the first quarter and was still down.
For the Saints, the season’s end cannot come quickly enough.
It is a season the reigning premiers would like to put well behind it.
Charlton has an important game ahead next week, when the side takes on Birchip-Watchem.
The win over St Arnaud sees Charlton move into second place on the ladder.
