The seven-year-old gelding, trained by Darryl Dodson and ridden by Horsham jockey Holly McKechnie, looked down and out on the final corner.
But in similar circumstances to last year's race when the combination pipped Framing Moe at the post, the Telopea Downs galloper squeezed past eight-year-old British bay horse Doctor Fremantle to snatch a historic third straight win and claim the $30,000 prize money.
McKechnie was humble in victory, admitting she had plenty of nerves before the race. "We needed something pretty miraculous to win from the position we were in, and we got it," he said.
Dodson also felt that a miracle was needed to get over the line.
"We needed a fair bit of luck to win last year's cup, and today we needed a miracle," he said. It was a photo finish for third place, with five-year-old New Zealand gelding Magic Me edging out six-year-old gelding Clang and Bang to round out the placings.
It was McKechnie's first win for the day after coming seventh in race one, fourth in race two and tenth in race four. More than 1800 people attended the cup day at the Horsham and District Racing Club, which was slightly up from last year's crowd.
President Karen Thomas praised the crowd on making it a day to remember in near-perfect weather.
Ms Thomas congratulated the combination of Dodson and McKechnie on another impressive victory.
