Principal Andrea Cox said the event was a great opportunity for children to build friendships and see the fun side of education.
“Everyone had a really good time,” she said.
“They all came as their favourite book characters – staff certainly got involved as well.
“Students spent time in their house groups, which are multi-age groups from prep to grade 6 doing numeracy for an hour and then literacy activities for an hour, based on the Book Week books.
“The aim is really to develop peer support, the older children working with the younger children to provide them with support and help build a network across the school.”
Mrs Cox said this year amid the princes and princesses, teachers witnessed a revival of Alice in Wonderland’s popularity.
“We had a Queen of Hearts, teachers dressed up as playing cards, an Alice and a Mad Hatter,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity for children to have fun at school.
“Quite often we focus so much on learning we we forget about enjoyment and being able to get involved and enjoy our learning in different ways.”
