SPECTATORS were on edge in a thrilling final quarter of the A Grade Horsham District Football Netball League semi-final as Noradjuha-Quantong cemented a one goal win.
The Bombers will now progress to the grand final as the Southern Roos prepare to battle in next week’s preliminary final.
Bombers coach Sharon Fedke said it was a fabulous feeling to have managed the one goal victory.
“It is so fabulous but I am so aware that it is just one game,” she said.
“The big one is still to come and we are super excited.
“It was a fantastic effort by the girls and it was a great team game.
“We never stopped fighting even when we were down and came from behind.
“I am so proud but only half the job is done, we have to get the other half done now.”
It was goal to goal action as the Southern Roos managed a one goal lead at the quarter time break.
Both sides matched in intensity and pressure in the second and third quarters, ending each quarter in a tie.
The final quarter saw both teams pick up the pace as an incredibly intense and physical battle erupted.
It was all on the line in the final seconds of the game as the Bombers last goal ended it all, 36-35.
Southern Roos coach Ebonie Salter said it was a disappointing loss.
“Our intensity was good and our effort. We were there for each other but it just didn’t pan our way,” she said.
“As pleased as we are with the effort, we are also pretty disappointed.”
Fedke said the Bombers exceptional pressure was key to the win.
“The defensive end was just fabulous the whole game, they didn’t let up,” she said.
“I think it was the defensive pressure we put on them and the use of our turnovers.
“There was great pressure all over the court.”
Fedke said it was a nerve wracking final quarter but a pleasing end.
“That is what netball is all about. You just have to hold your nerve,” she said.
“Hopefully your goals go in and the defenders get a few turnovers and you make the most of it.
“You just hope that when the siren goes you are ahead at the end of the game.”
Brooke Pay was a standout defender for the Bombers, leaving it all on the court.
Salter was another impressive defender, taking home a best award for the Southern Roos.
Fedke was a leading goal scorer, shooting 32 goals alongside Sammi Avery who put up four for the side.
Amy Lewis managed 24 goals for the Southern Roos while Anna-Grace Close shot 11.
Salter said her side lost its head during the game.
“Our biggest challenge was probably just that we lost our heads a bit and we let them get into our minds,” she said.
“We haven’t had great preparation but neither have the Bombers so there’s nothing more we can do apart from working on our head game leading into next week.”
