The Wimmera Football League should have the privilege of playing the last grand final of the year, being the major league in the north-western region of Victoria.
I can understand the league commissioners attempting to maximise the receipts and attendances because the AFL has no matches being played this weekend.
Other major leagues across country Victoria have only completed home and away matches or have played the first games of their finals series last weekend.
If the aim is to encourage the best talent to play at the highest level locally, that would be the Wimmera Football League.
I sincerely hope the Wimmera league clubs will pressure the league commissioners to play their grand final one week before the AFL grand final in the future.

Wasting water
YOUR front page article (Mail-Times, August 24) repeats the assertion that GWMWater controlled storages are now safe for summer. Andrew Barton, the water resources manager, would like your readers to think that this improved situation is achieved thanks to GWMWater, which goes on wasting so much water in Lake Hindmarsh and the Wannon River, dry years and wet.
All this at the expense of Dock, Green, Lonsdale and Batyo Catyo lakes, which would benefit far more people.

Freedoms carted away
PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition leader Bill Shorten said on the ABC “it was time” for same sex marriage to be made law in Australia.
The ‘timely’ unity of these two on this important issue confirms to me that it is truthfully not about equality.
It is really part of the Marxist cultural revolution working to destroy our democratic freedoms and make the state absolute over us. Our elected leaders are interested in us becoming fully part of the universal socialist revolution.
Of course, not every Labor voter or left-leaning person is a devious ideologue.
Multitudes are being hoodwinked. Pope Francis recently expressed his own chagrin that the teaching to children of gender fluidity was “ideological colonisation by influential countries”. That clicks.
In Australia, the well-publicised Roz Ward was stood down and then reinstated at Latrobe University after her speech to a Marxist conference spilled the beans.
The Safe Schools Coalition program is in the ideological context of a radical sexual revolution to be pushed through Australian schools.
The real question before us as responsible citizens is ‘do we understand the times?’
The times being the past struggles to maintain democratic liberty; the present, the dramatic rise of the totalitarian aspirations of the radical left; and the future, the loss of our freedoms should the coup succeed.
Freedom of conscience, freedom of belief, freedom of thought, freedom of enterprise without the costly, debilitating entanglements of government red tape and even freedom of assembly.
Loaded onto the wheels and chassis of the sexual revolution in all countries having voted in favour of the redefinition of marriage, these freedoms are now being carted away.
We need to understand the times - now.
