This event, hosted by chemical producer and seller Crop Smart, was designed to expose some of the myths of chemical mixing and applications.
The ‘Secrets Exposed’ tour presentation involved Crop Smart’s Joe Pedler mixing up common chemicals.
He also took growers on a virtual tour of the company’s Melbourne formulation plant.
Mr Pedler said the day was about sharing information about chemicals.
“It’s information we’ve learnt over the years about how chemicals work – information we have formulated over time,” he said.
“We were keen to share that information in a fun and interesting way for farmers.”
Mr Pedler said farmers often spent a lot of time mixing chemicals in their boomspray.
“However, most farmers have never looked inside the boomspray to see what was actually happening to the chemicals,” he said.
“So when they do see things or when issues occur, they don’t understand why they are happening.”
Mr Pedler said the presentation involved mixing common chemicals in beakers and looking at what happened.
“We also explained the chemistry behind mixing the products to growers at the tour,” he said.
“Hopefully from the presentation, people were able to get a better understanding of the chemistry behind the products.
“Growers can then use that information when they are using their boomspray on the farm.
“Hopefully, by understanding the products, growers can then improve their performance when they are spraying.”
About 40 Wimmera growers attended the session.
