We are now only a couple of weeks away from caretaker mode for the Northern Grampians Shire leading up to the council elections on October 22. I’d take this opportunity to remind everyone to make sure you make your vote count, and choose who you would like to represent you for the next four years.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been in discussions with our state and federal representatives, and later this week we have a number of meetings at Parliament House to advance our representation for the Northern Grampians Shire. We will be discussing 3, 16, 81, the Western Highway duplication from Ararat to Stawell, the needs of our sporting clubs for new or improved infrastructure, lack of natural gas availability, and several other important initiatives. Let's hope we can get some partnerships between local and state government to advance the well-being of our shire.
During August 2016 I attended a meeting with the North West Municipal Association, a group which represents councils from Mildura to Stawell. Some very interesting discussions were had and everyone is very aware of the challenges facing our region.
Our new CEO Michael Bailey has hit the ground running, and is showing outstanding leadership and direction. We have spent many hours and days together during the past few weeks, helping Michael get started on the task ahead of him. I am sure that Michael will become an outstanding CEO and leader for our community.
The southern chapter of the Motorhomes Association of Victoria, held its rally in Stawell and it was an outstanding success. Over 120 motorhomes attended, with about 400 people supporting them. The economic numbers are yet to be released, but there was around $18,000 in shopper dockets put into the lucky draw on Saturday night. Congratulations to all concerned in the organisation of the event. We are hopeful that they may return in 2018.
With the football/netball season coming to an end, I would take this opportunity to congratulate the winners throughout our district, and wish all those still participating the best of luck. We certainly understand the importance of our clubs and the great job our volunteers do throughout the year. Well done again this year.
Remember, if you don't have a go, you'll never know.
