QUICK-THINKING neighbours have help saved a property from floodwater at Murtoa.
Resident Katelyn Tepper said the front lawn of her brother Aaron’s house in Breen Street, Murtoa, was inundated with water on Tuesday night.
“There has been some issues with guttering in the street, and there has been for a while, which Yarriambiack Shire Council is aware of,” she said.
“Sometimes when it rain it floods, but after the heavy rain on Tuesday night, water went up over the nature strip, into the front yard and surrounded the house.
“Water was running under the house as well.”
Miss Tepper said the incident happened about 11pm on Tuesday.
“We had heaps of neighbours come out and help us dig drenches to divert the water away from the house,” she said.
“We have good neighbours in Murtoa.
“We called the State Emergency Services as well and two fire trucks also came to help.”
Miss Tepper said water came close to one bedroom and her brother was now inspecting the house to see if there was any damage.
She said the flood water had receded by Wednesday afternoon.
“A huge thank you to the SES and the Country Fire Authority, and of course our neighbours,” she said.
The Yarriambiack Creek at Murtoa reached 0.37 metres at 8.10am on Wednesday.
