Horsham students raise $1500 for Africa

Horsham's Ss Michael and John's Primary School raised more than $1500 for two African community schools at a Mission Day on Friday.

The school's religious education co-ordinator Alison McKinnon said students set up fundraising stalls and raised the money in one hour.

"The prep classes had a cake stall, students in year one and two did lucky dips and the children from grades three to six worked in groups to set up their own stalls," she said.

The stalls included mini-golf, a haunted house and a 'guess the number of jelly beans' competition.

Students, parents, grandparents and school staff shopped at the stalls.

"The money raised will go to TEAR Australia and will then be passed onto two community schools in Africa," Mrs McKinnon said.

"The children understand that what they were doing helps other people.

"Some children had change left over and were more than willing to put it towards the funds."

Mrs McKinnon said the school had an annual Mission Day fundraiser.
