Kybybolite kept coming back but Penola put on the pressure and left the field with a comfortable 19.7(121)-12.15(87) victory.
Kaniva-Leeor United president Jason Gordon said it was a terrific day for all involved.
“It is a credit to the volunteers who put themselves out there for the club,” he said.
“The ground was widely praised, it was such a great surface.
“It is all due to the hard work of the club.
“Both the coaches and presidents of the playing clubs complimented the ground.”
Gordon said the day was also a success for Kaniva businesses.
“The three local businesses which stayed open said they had an upturn in trade and that it was the best Saturday they have ever had,” he said.
“The weather held off for us and we sold out of almost everything at the game.
“We couldn’t have been happier, everyone worked well together.”
