“History has shown that every Olympic year we have big or higher numbers,” he said.
“We generally have 100-110 in a normal year, we hope to get up to about 150 this year.”
The program is open to age groups from under-six to under-15/16s and runs on Wednesday’s at 5.15pm in terms one and four.
A come and try night will be held on October 5 to kick off the season, at Dudley Cornell Park in Horsham.
Arnel said the volunteer run program is held in a family friendly environment and offers positive pathways to promising athletes.
“If a parent finds their child is going fairly well with school based athletics then we can provide the pathways to compete in regional and state competitions and coach technique based athletics,” he said.
The program offers two track and two field events each week, including long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, high jump, sprints and distance runs.
