Former Edenhope-Apsley player Tim Bone along with former Wimmera man Andrew Reid took out the Allied Pickford’s Cup with the Mackay City Hawks in Queensland on September 10.
The Hawks took on the Moranbah Bulldogs and defeated them in a fine display, 19.12(126) – 8.4(52).
Bone scored two majors and was named best on ground while Reid scored one major and was named fifth best in the premiership side.
Former Nhill defender, Frazer Driscoll, played a grand final for North Adelaide’s under-18 side but was defeated by a single behind at the hands of Glenelg, 6.20(56)-8.7(55) on September 18.
“It was very shattering. I have never been that emotional about footy before,” Driscoll said.
The final score was settled in the final minutes of the game when a kick from the 50 was made toward the goal-square where the ball bounced through more than a dozen players before rolling through for a behind.
Driscoll said he played every Roosters game this year and that the organisation of the club structure has helped him develop as a footballer.
“Having a coach and three assistants was a bit different but it was helpful to get more feedback from different views,” he said.
“It was hard for the team to gel together as we had ins and outs every week with college, state, reserves and league as well as injuries.
“I think I counted 59 people that went through the team this year, so it was hard to play consistent four quarter footy week in week out.”
Nine more former Wimmera players will be representing in their respective clubs in a grand final on Saturday.
Heath MacInnes, Ross McRae, Kye Chapple, James Wollermann and Jonathon Hobbs will play for the Port Douglas Crocs senior or reserve side.
Former AFL draftee Rory Taggert and Horsham Demon Dylan Parish will play for for North Warrnambool and take on Tim Carter’s Koroit.
