Joiner maintains a perfect record at 3-0 and with some big fights in the pipeline it could either make or break his career.
Joiner fights out of the Westside MMA gym where former Stawell resident Stuart Grant is the owner and one of the many coaches.
Grant is Joiner’s Muay Thai coach and often one of his support networks.
Joiner is ecstatic to be inside the top five, but he knows there is still plenty of work to do.
Apart from the current number one Joiner is the only fighter inside the top five with a perfect record.
“It feels good to be in the top five,” Joiner said.
“I knew my road was going to be quicker than most people because there are not many heavyweights around. To do in roughly 15 months of training is amazing, but number five isn't number one so there is a long way to go yet.”
Joiner is hopeful of stepping into the octogon in Adelaide on October 30.
“We're just waiting for the call, for it to be finalised,” Joiner said.
“We are also trying to organise a fight with the nations number four, so if that goes ahead that will be a big one.”
Joiner’s body is fit and healthy despite an ankle injury a few weeks ago.
Joiner took time and visited Stawell during his break.
For Joiner training was once just a part of a lifestyle change, but as he makes inroads into being the country's best he has decided to make a career out of it.
“I always turned people down, because I just wanted to focus on training and not stress about the business side of things, but I'm ready now ” Joiner said.
Joiner is looking for sponsors and would love it if people from his home town would jump onboard and help further his career.
Number five isn't number one so there is a long way to go yet.
