Horsham Agricultural Society secretary Andrea Cross said a range of activities for kids and adults had the estimated ticket sales above 5000 before the day was over.

“I think we should be exceeding previous numbers because our social media promotion has been more interactive and engaging,” she said.

“There have been a lot of faces here that I haven’t seen before, so I’d say that from our perspective people have made the effort and traveled.”

“The day started off with a bang: people lining up at the front gate to enter because the first 200 kids to receive their free showbag for the passport competition,” she said.

“Bubble Muffins have been popular in the children’s area where they teach healthy cooking, the Mik Maks have been playing and they’ve been a hit.

“The animal nursery is always filled with kids.”

The agricultural society had planned for wet weather and moved most entertainment undercover following heavy rains in the previous two weeks.

Ms Cross said he was thankful that it had rained the day before the show but not during the main events.

“It was beautiful, it changed from sunny to cloudy and kept everyone’s temperatures at an even keel,” she said.

Ms Cross said there was plenty of entertainment for adults including boutique beer.

For those who didn't need a full break before the traditional fireworks display and brand new laser light show, a live music schedule kept up the pace heading into nightfall.  

Chris Block won the Briceo Memorial Ute Trophy for Best Overall Local Ute in a back-to-back victory.

“We even had one bloke come in from Thomson Dam on the other side of Melbourne for the ute competition,” Ms Cross said.

“He drove six hours but got here at 1pm after judging had been completed.

“He and his mates still had a good time.”

Ms Cross said the Stockman’s Challenge, fleece, sheep and sheering events had seen plenty of entrants.

The competitions will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday with the horse events.

“The arena is in perfect condition,” Ms Cross said.
