Acting Sergeant David Richardson said police believed the first vehicle was reported stolen from Caltex service station on Stawell Road between 2am and 5am.
He said the time-frame of the other thefts was difficult to determine.
Sergeant Richardson said three of the four vehicles had been located after being abandoned.
He said one car remained outstanding.
Sergeant Richardson said a silver Toyota Lexcen sedan, which was similar in appearance to a VS Commodore, might be being used by transport by the offenders.
