Bike Bendigo treasurer Robert Kretschmer said everyone needed to have empathy and understanding for other people on the road, because they were all “just trying to get somewhere”.
Cyclists and pedestrians are among the most vulnerable users of the roads.
“Discussion can get heated, but try to think if that person on the bike was your mum or son or grandma, how would you like them to experience riding a bike?” Mr Kretschmer said.
“You’d give that space to your mum – everyone deserves that.”
As a cyclist, he said most people did the right thing, but seeing people paying attention to their phones while driving was particularly worrying.
