Peter Jorgensen and his daughter Emma Kilpatrick took two of their Clydesdale horses to the show.
The mare, Box Valley Martina was led out by Mr Jorgenson and was awarded reserve champion.
The colt, Box Valley Texas, was handled by Ms Kilpatrick and was named junior reserve champion and best yearling colt at the show.
Mr Jorgensen’s wife Eileen said Box Valley Texas also won the Pat Arnold trophy.
“Pat Arnold was a well-known breeder and judge of Clydesdale horses from Warracknabeal,” she said.
Mr Jorgensen said a lot of work went into getting the horses ready for the show.
“We have to constantly handle them and feed them,” he said.
“We also attend to their feet every few months.”
Mrs Jorgensen said the family had worked on the horses most weekends since Christmas.
The Jorgensen family have 13 horses.
“There are no pressures in Clydesdales, which is good in today’s mechanical world,” Mr Jorgensen said.
“They are a quiet animal and only travel at the speed you like.”
Taking Clydesdales to the Royal Melbourne Show is a tradition for the family with Mr Jorgensen’s grandfather showing in 1934.
“My grandfather always said it’s better to have a good animal on the farm, than a mongrel,” Mr Jorgenseon said.
Mrs Jorgensen said entry numbers at the Melbourne Show were down this year, compared with previous years, with two regular breeders not attending.
