Police have returned to the scene of the crime on Saturday morning to piece together the incident, which occurred about 5am on Saturday.

Channel Nine reports the victim left a party in Ian Street when a group of people attacked him. He was left with stab wounds to the abdomen.

Police say the victim's friends came to his aid and drove him to Dandenong Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A spokeswoman from Dandenong Hospital said victim, a man aged in his 20s, is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit in a stable condition. He is likely to remain in hospital for another two days.
