David suffered a massive stroke in 2015 and nearly died, putting an extra special spin on the exhibition.
“We thought he wasn’t going to make it,” David’s son-in-law Nepal Suwal said.
“He’s lost some mobility with the stroke, but he’s started painting again. It’s probably what kept him going.”
David was born in Sydney and grew up in Culcairn.
He studied art in the 1990s at Wangaratta TAFE.
David spent 25 years in Wangaratta and works predominantly in the mediums of watercolour, acrylic, oil, pencil and mixed media.
He moved to Horsham to be closer to family following his stroke. David said art kept him grounded.
“Painting reflects my interests. Nature seems to form the basis for almost all,” he said.
David’s exhibition opens at 6pm on Saturday, October 22.
The gallery is open from noon to 4pm every Saturday and Sunday.
