A man stinking of raw meat has sexually assaulted a woman on a tram in Melbourne's east.

The man rubbed himself against the 42-year-old woman just before 8am on Monday, detectives were told.
He had boarded the Kew-bound tram near the Kooyong Railway Station.
He exited the tram at Manningtree Road and was last seen heading towards Power Street.
It comes after a report of an unrelated sexual attack on a woman travelling on a Bundoora-bound tram on Sunday.
The 19-year-old woman was on an 86 tram passing through Reservoir between 4.30am and 5am when an unknown man approached her.
Police have been told the man, who had distinctive yellow fingernails, sexually assaulted her while making comments about her clothing.
The woman got off the tram a short time later.
The man involved in the Kew incident was Caucasian, aged in his 30s, about 170 centimetres tall and smelling of meat.
At the time of the offence he was wearing black baggy pants and a baggy blue jumper with white specks.
The man on the Bundoora tram was Caucasian, aged about 50,170cm tall with a medium build, very short grey hair and grey stubble.
He was wearing a black hooded jacket with white text on it.
Police have been told the man had distinctive yellow fingernails and have released an image of similar nails.
They have also released computer generated images of the two men.
